Project Tunsbergdalsbreen
(15.10.2009)

Tunsbergdalsbreen is the longest glacier outlet from Jostedalsbreen, and the project is inspired by a British research expedition that went there 50 years ago to map the glacier.

The plan was to establish a camp on Røykjadalsbandet and approach the glacier from there. It turned out that the access to the glacier was poor, so the camp was moved to Tunsbergdalsbrevatnet. From here the lower part of the glacier was explored. Glacier speed and thickness, and front position change, was measured. Results will be presented in the exhibition in the Norwegian Glacier Museum next year. Hopefully some of the participants will come back next year, to lead the expedition with youth from both countries.
